Waving the texture of history
[
Maddalena Delli]

Prato has a long-established vocation as a waving and milling center. Therefore, it seems only fitting that the city's most treasured relic should be a "cintola" (girdle) said to have belonged to the Virgin Mary. The Museo del Tessuto is in via Santa Chiara 24, steps away from another interesting destination, the Castle.
Unique in its genre, the museum opened in 1975 after textile collector Loriano Bertini bequethed more than 600 pieces. The present premises - inaugurated a few months ago - gather under one roof more than 6,000 samples of fabric from all continents and times.
